ONLINE - League of Women Voters presentation In-Person

This month's speaker is Emily Baird-Chrisohon of the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC).

Emily Baird-Chrisohon is the Welcoming Tennessee Coordinator for the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC). Emily was born and raised in Florence, Alabama. After graduating with a B.A. from Berry College, she became the Managing Director of a team building company in Nairobi, Kenya. She moved to Nashville to attend Vanderbilt Divinity School where she earned a Master of Divinity with a certificate in Religion in the Arts and Contemporary Culture. Prior to joining the TIRRC staff in April 2018, Emily was the Regional Organizer with Religions for Peace USA and the Director of A Seat At the Table Knoxville. Emily will be speaking about the complexities of the immigration system as well as the challenges of our immigrant neighbors.

The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan volunteer organization that promotes engaged, informed, and active participation in government. Since the creation of the national organization 100 years ago — before women were ever guaranteed the right to vote — its programs and activities have focused not just on voting rights for all citizens, but the broader picture of civic engagement that includes everything from participating in the census to walking into the polling place for the first time. Learning more about public policies and issues allows members of the public to make informed decisions about the matters that impact their communities.
