Family Recipe as Narrative

Family Recipe as Narrative In-Person

Our most cherished memories are often made while sharing a meal with those we love. With one bite, a beloved dish can transport us to a grandmother's kitchen or a friend's backyard patio. In this writing workshop with author Alora Young, you'll learn how to turn family recipes, like grandma's cornbread or mom's Sunday gravy, into personal essays that weave together food, memory, and voice.

Alora Young is a poet, songwriter, playwright, and a Presidential Scholar. She was the 2020-2021 Youth Poet Laureate of Nashville and the Southern United States. She signed her first book deal, Walking Gentry Home, with Hogarth, a division of Penguin Random House, when she was18 years old. Young has created works for the United Nations and has performed at the Kennedy Center. Her poetry has appeared in The New York Times and The Washington Post, and she has performed her poetry on CNN, CBS, and the TEDx stage.
