How to Read Greek Myths In-Person
Join us for another session in our How to Read series, where we explore how to read different genres and types of text.
Many of us first encounter Greek myths in a classroom, a childhood storybook, or even through a pop culture phenomenon like the Percy Jackson series. But Greek myths are more than just tales of gods and heroes -- they are cultural archetypes that continue to echo through literature, film, politics, and even everyday language. How can reading these ancient stories help us better understand the world we live in today? And how do myths continue to shape our imaginations -- from Marvel superheroes to modern storytelling? Come explore How to Read Greek Myths, not just as old stories, but as living influences that bridge the ancient and the contemporary.
Kassie Dooley-Smith has always loved Greek myths -- from being named after the prophetess Cassandra to devouring books of mythology as a child to exploring Rome and the ruins of her obsession. The natural transition was a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University in Classical and Near Eastern Languages and Cultures. She also earned her Master's in Education at Vanderbilt's Peabody College, and because she can't seem to stop, she recently completed her Educational Specialist in history. Currently, she weaves her passion for mythology into her 8th grade classroom in Atlanta.
