History Hour: Scottish Bagpipes and Kilts

History Hour: Scottish Bagpipes and Kilts In-Person

Join us for our new History Hour series. This month, Andrew McRady will bring his bagpipes and other Scottish items to give a brief introduction to the history of the bagpipes and the kilt.

Andrew McRady began playing the Great Highland Bagpipes as a Charter Member of the Nashville Pipes & Drums, over 40 years ago. He served as the Piper to the Chief of Clan Anderson, and has played before Royalty, Nobility, Peasants, and Pleasants.

He took up the Scottish Small pipes after meeting the great Hamish Moore, who led the revival of the instrument in the 1980s and 1990s.

His path of bagpipes has led him to other instruments- the tin whistles, Bodhrán, doumbek, bones, Aboriginal didgeridoo, and other musical odds and ends - all to the greater glory of music and fun!
