The Story of the LST 325

The Story of the LST 325 In-Person

Learn about the LST 325, a WWII Navy Ship, that landed tanks, troops and equipment directly on the beach at North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and at D-Day, Omaha Beach, Normandy, France.  The LST 325 is the last of this class of "Hero Ships" that still operates under it's own power, and is lovingly cared for by an all volunteer crew.  It is home ported at Evansville, Indiana and may be toured there.  It just completed it's 2016 good will tour, visiting Cape Girardeau, MO, and Vicksburg, MS.  See our website:  www.lstmemorial.org.

This ship was saved from destruction by Captain Robert D. Jornlin, and a volunteer crew, who traveled to Crete, Greece, and literally saved it in a scrapyard there.  These men, on their own expense, made this Old Gray Lady seaworthy again and brought it back to America in 2001.

Presenter: Karl Plitt is a retired Police Officer, a SWAT Medic, and a Volunteer Crew Member of the LST 325 (LST=Landing Ship Tank)
