Talking About Alzheimer's

Talking About Alzheimer's In-Person

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, affecting approximately 1 in 8 people over the age of 65. Many people in the Nashville community have experienced Alzheimer’s disease first hand through family members and friends who have been affected by it. This talk will give some background on Alzheimer’s disease, such as what causes it, what the symptoms are, and what it means to have a family history of the disease. We will also discuss current Alzheimer’s disease research being conducted at Vanderbilt University, and ways that you can contribute to that research.

Emily Mason is earning her PhD in neuroscience at Vanderbilt University. Her work focuses on identifying the earliest brain changes associated with Alzheimer’s disease so that someday the disease can be stopped or prevented.
